My great uncle had a 1904 Hupmobile, and behind the front seat there was literally a big trunk, suitcase, attached. When we were all on vacation together, he’d tell us kids he’d give us a ride in it, if we’d polish it with the rags he kept under the front seat. Oh, we’d get that old car so gleaming! It was only a 2-seater, but he’d plop one small cousin in his lap, another big kid with a smaller one in the passenger seat, two small kids in the trunk, and two teenagers on the running boards, hanging on for dear life. We’d drive like that for about a quarter of a mile into the small vacation town to the bakery where’d load up on a treat called bear claws. If anyone waved at us, Uncle would hit the horn, which went “Ah-oooo-gah!” All sugared up, he’d return us to our parents. Location of these shenanigans was Boulder Creek, California, USA, which probably doesn’t help you one bit.
